Privacy Policy

Slashr News does not collect, access, or transmit any of the following:

• Personally identifiable information (name, email, address, phone)
• Authentication credentials, cookies, or session data
• Financial or payment information
• Web browsing history, URLs, or page content
• Form inputs, keystrokes, or clipboard contents
• Location data
• Communications (messages, emails)

We do not use cookies, analytics, advertising SDKs, or any third-party tracking technology inside the extension.

The extension uses Chrome's chrome.storage.local API to store three things, all of which stay on your device:

1. A cached copy of the public article feed, so the list appears instantly when you open a new tab instead of being refetched every time. It contains only article titles, URLs, categories, curator comments, and the first name, role, photo and public LinkedIn URL of the Slashr consultant who picked each article. Nothing about you is part of this cache.
2. One display preference: whether you want the selection shown on your New Tab page. This is a single true/false value.
3. The list of article identifiers you have already seen, used only to show the unread count on the toolbar icon. These are identifiers of public articles, not a record of your browsing.

This data is never transmitted to Slashr or to any third party. You can erase all of it at any time by removing the extension.

When you open a new tab or the extension popup, and every 30 minutes in the background to refresh the unread count, the extension fetches a public JSON feed from an endpoint controlled by Slashr (a Cloudflare Worker at https://slashr-news.benoit-673.workers.dev/feed). This request:

• Sends no user identifiers: no cookies, no authentication token, no advertising ID, no device fingerprint
• Returns a public JSON document that is identical for every user
• Carries the standard HTTP metadata that any web request carries, namely your IP address and browser User-Agent. Cloudflare, our infrastructure provider, records these in its request logs for security and operational purposes, under its own privacy policy

We do not aggregate, cross-reference, profile, or resell these requests. We do not know who our users are, and the feed cannot be personalised because it is the same document for everyone.

The extension makes no other network request. Clicking an article opens the publisher's website directly in a new tab, with no redirect and no click tracking on our side.

The extension requests two Chrome permissions, and no host permissions:

• storage : used solely to keep the three local values described above.
• alarms : used solely to schedule a check of the public feed every 30 minutes so the unread badge stays current. Under Manifest V3 a service worker is shut down when idle, so an alarm is the only way to schedule periodic work.

The extension requests no activeTab, no tabs, no scripting, and no host permissions. It cannot read or modify any web page you visit.

Articles are proposed through a separate web page used exclusively by Slashr consultants, who authenticate with a personal key. That page stores the key in the browser's localStorage of the person using it, and transmits the article URL and their own comment to our Airtable database. It is not part of the extension, is never exposed to extension users, and processes no data about readers.

The extension is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly process any children's data (because it processes no user data at all).

If we ever start handling user data (for example, adding a sign-in feature), we will update this policy and request explicit consent before any new data is processed. The « last updated » date at the top of this page always reflects the current version.

Slashr News is published by Slashr, a search marketing agency based in Lille, France. The extension is provided for free as an editorial product and is not monetized through advertising or data sales.
